Wedding Vows - How To Write?

E-mail Print

"To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part." from the Book of Common Prayer is the most widely known wedding vow. However, you can always adapt and modify it to your own.

Wedding vows are promises that couples make to each other during the wedding ceremony. When writing marriage vows, keep in mind that some religions will require that you use authorized wording, but may also allow you to write your own personal vows. Vows can be taken from poetry and lyrics, written by the couple, or from traditional religious vows.

The vows that a couple takes should represent their expectations for one another and their goals for their future. Before writing your vows, you can write down all of the keywords of your feelings towards your partner. You can also seek guidance by consulting with your wedding minister.

Writing your own wedding vows makes your wedding even more special. Once the wedding is over, you may also print out the wedding vows as a reminder of your love for each other.
